St. Anne's Park, Dublin - Short Story
I was in St. Anne's Park in Dublin where I was on a silent retreat. It was early morning and I was on my own. I could hear the birds singing in the trees. Their songs flutey, sometimes chirpy and sometimes melancholy. I saw the little squirrels chasing each other up and down the trees. It was a calm peaceful morning and all was well with God and I.
Suddenly I heard someone play the bagpipes. It was very surreal. Who was playing bagpipes at that time of the morning in a public park? I never found out but it didn't matter as it all added to the ambience of being connected to God and nature. There was a deep sense of peace in my soul.
I crossed over a bridge and watched the river flow beneath me. White swirls and ripples of water and the morning sunlight bouncing off the ripples. It was pure heaven. If only life could be like this all the time. Soon I would go back to the hussell and bussell of Belfast but for now I was enjoying the peace and quiet of this Dublin Park.
When I go back there in my mind I remember the joy and peace. The smell of the trees, the sound of my feet crossing the bridge. A gentle breeze on my face and yes those bagpipes!"
