A girl child

I am a girl child, in my mother's womb,
There are people out there, determined to make it my tomb.
To my mother's pleas, they turn a deaf ear,
Instilling in her a crippling fear.

They think that I will be a waste of space,
To rip me from my protective cocoon, they race.
These people want to commit an inhuman act,
'A girl is useless', for them it's a fact.

I don't want to be a burden on anyone,
I just want a chance to watch the tall waves, the setting sun.
I might not be a boy,
That doesn't mean that they will treat me like a toy.

My mother comforts me even when she is in tears,
Those people out there deserve to be impaled by spears.
No one has given them the right to tear a mother's heart,
A doe is gifted with beauty if strength is given to the hart.

I am in my mother's womb, but I know right and wrong,
Is there no place in the world where I belong?
Why does everyone treasure a son and not a daughter,
Why is a boy considered wine and a girl polluted water?

People forget that they can't live without water,
All these tortures on a girl, will only make their lives shorter.
What crime have i committed, which calls for such a unfair punishment?,
Why torture my sweet mother, with your harsh judgment?

A woman maintains the balance of life,
She is a loving mother, a devoted wife.
There is a fact, which these violent people shun,
If they kill the girls, who will bear them a son?

About this poem

Isn't it ironic that in the country in which goddesses are worshiped, female foeticide is extremely rampant?
