Little Stone House
They moved into the little stone house in 2001
The front lawn was barren and the roof was gone
But they loved it.
From the window they could see the fiery sun rising in the dawn
I came along 3 years later
The grass had grown in and now there were toys strewn across it
But the garden still needed to be replanted and the driveway redone.
My little baby body would rise so early, and my mother would play with me in the golden morning sun
Slowly I watched as each season enveloped the little stone house.
Bone chilling winters
Rejuvenating springs
Sweltering summers
Scarlet autumns.
I continued to grow, no more toys were scattered across the lawn now
I watched as my childhood friends took to drugs
I wanted to run away from that little stone house
The only thing that cared about me was the afternoon sun
Who wrapped me in its hugs.
Eventually I got my wish
I left that little stone house
Off on my own in the big wide world.
I didn’t return for a very long time
I wish I had.
I didn’t get to say goodbye
They sold their beloved stone house, moving away
It sat in silence for a very long time
Something went wrong.
I visit it’s ashes
Burnt to the ground
The front lawn is barren and the roof is gone
The rubble is black, still smoking
It’s all gone.
Nothing could be saved
That same fiery sun lights the sky on fire
The little stone house is no more.
