A Consolation Message From the Departed
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
COUNSELOR:
Do not fret and blindly stare
as if your life has suddenly come
to a halt,
thinking too much…
and even wondering
whether in some unknown manner,
it is your fault.
Life certainly has its ups and downs.
The road is always curving, never straight.
Your task while here…
is simply not to scowl or frown.
Just keep on smiling, friends…
before it is too late and, while waiting,
make your just amends.
THE DEPARTED ONE:
And as for me, your friend,
your lifetime partner,
who once walked this earth
in tandem, right beside you,
I’ve moved to somewhere else,
to greener pastures…
My everlasting place of berth.
So, do not sit and mope
at what you fear is my demise.
Do not think there is no hope,
or whine, or pine, or close your eyes.
For, ever shining like the sun,
You and I, and everyone else,
again shall surely rise.
About this poem
Just as the sun sets, but eternally rises, so must all of us, living under the sun, rejoice and be satisfied that the dark shadows of our lives can be overcome by the brightness in our hearts.
