Grace
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Be strengthened by the grace of Christ,
And the things that you heard from me;
Of earthly things not be enticed,
For He can give insight to see.
Many witnesses trust faithful men,
Who are able to teach others;
In hearing time and time again,
That have been your Christian brothers.
Share in the suffering of Christ,
Bear hardships as a good soldier;
At the time He was sacrificed,
That matures as you grow older.
No soldier should get entangled,
In any civilian pursuits;
Since it aims you to be strangled,
In many trivial disputes.
An athlete would never be crowned,
Unless he has followed the rules;
Just the same as the Lord has frowned,
How the cheaters have become fools.
Diligent farmers should consume,
Having the first fruit of his share;
Before harvesting does resume,
That is reaping all the fields bare.
Consider everything I say,
The Lord gives you understanding;
Remember to trust and obey,
And all that God is commanding.
