To Return
Silent I await the dawn
Lost, wisdom for my volition
Only silence and acceptance
in my mind do yet remain
as the last steps on that new beginning
when the finite fell away
and silence sang
Before I turned astray
and asked, a little longer stay
Amongst the fallen tarry
In this appealing disarray
Pray this new journey not begin
again with so much pain
To crush my heart and wash away
The barriers in my mind
Come Father
I remember
The pact you would not break
nor let your child forsake
how I wrestled to exhaustion
In that rainy night
Laid my head on stone to sleep
With hope not to awaken
And in the dawn no scar, no pain
Only memory of the failed rebellion
Childish vain
I remember what I told you
And I remember what you showed
I remember why I turned
That bond now long broken
I have tarried to exhaustion
Only longing to be home.
Can this memory suffice?
Need I fight to my submission
Crush again this heart to see?
The pact remains unbroken
Though new bonds have been awoken
Can you help me let them go?
Though older I am still a child
Inside
Open these eyes once more
Let me hear the music in the silence
And in the darkness
Let me see.
About this poem
This is the first poem I have ever shared publicly. I've written a fair bit. Polished almost none. This one I spent some time with. While I hope to receive feedback and critique, I also hope it resonates something with others. It's about a journey and experience from my youth and finding my way back to it now.
