Blue Butterfly Fly
Today I saw a butterfly
It was blue
Just like your favorite color
It landed on the roses you planted outside
Funny thing is
I was just asking for a sign
A sign that you are still here
I miss you
Years have passed, time has gone on
But I still haven’t gotten over you
I took all of your pictures off the wall
My therapist says it isn’t healthy to keep holding on
Maybe holding on is the only thing that’s keeping me here
Hello? Do you hear me?
It’s me again
I know I don’t come here often anymore
Coming here pains me
I still have dreams about you
Dreams where we touch
I’m getting better
I really am
I’ve moved on and found someone knew
I’m happy
I miss you
Where are you
I know you wanted me to live a full life
Have kids
Grow old
But living in a world without you is absurd
Why would you tell me to do such a thing
I drown my pain in drugs and booze
It feels like my world is crashing down
I always hope that you’ll come back
But reality is you’re gone forever
I wanna be gone too
Hello it’s me
Do you hear me?
I’m finally here with you
About this poem
I wrote this poem after losing my grandmother two months ago. She always loved poetry and I've been thinking a lot about her. I've been writing a lot of different poems based on grief. This is one of them.
