A FARMERS GARDEN WITHIN
Clynetonn 2002 (Anambra state)
A FARMERS GARDEN WITHIN
Our skin, a garden lush with many blooms,
Is tended well or left to waste away,
It shows the care with which we tend our rooms,
And mirrors how we live, from day to day.
For in this garden, both the good and bad,
Take root and grow, sometimes without our care,
And yet we fail to see, for we are mad,
With thoughts of beauty, youth, and what is fair.
The scars and lines that mar our skin reveal,
The trials and the tears that we endure,
But yet we often fail to truly feel,
The beauty of this garden, sweet and pure.
It's sad, indeed, that we so seldom see,
That our skin is a garden, wild and free
For in our rush to mask our flaws and fears,
We hide the very things that make us real,
We cover up the garden's weeds and tears,
And lose the chance to truly touch and feel.
It's sad, indeed, that we do not perceive,
Our skin, a garden, waiting to be weaved.
About this poem
This poem, titled "A Farmer's Garden Within," beautifully captures the metaphor of our skin as a garden. It suggests that our physical appearance reflects our inner selves, just as a garden's condition reflects the care it receives. The poem highlights the duality of life, where both the good and bad experiences are part of us. Ultimately, the poem reminds us that our skin is like a garden, waiting to be nurtured and woven into the fabric of our lives, and that in doing so, we can find a deeper understanding of ourselves and our humanity. more »
