A Bit of Advice
the world doesn’t stop in
it’s tracks
to pick up where
it left off
when you claim that
you are ready-
sharp thorns cut through
worn shoes
and leave behind impressions of blood and
dust on the earth.
the path laid before you stretches
miles
and with it the pain of
memory
this pain i know to be too
real.
for what else to remind us
that we are simply
mortals
than the wounds that never
heal?
About this poem
This poem tells of a journey that I seem to always be taking- a journey back to my childhood, back to the reawakening of the fears and doubts my younger self possessed, and a journey back into my grief. I partially wrote this to myself as a reminder that, despite what each individual is going through at any given moment, the onward march of time never stops. As scary as it seems, however, isn’t this what makes us human?
