Where Once a Forest Stood
The trees stand up like skyscrapers.
A path that molds from grass to dirt,
like where a sidewalk would reside.
Birds which soar above the clouds like planes in the sky.
Wolves that travel faster than cars,
on a clogged road to the dense city.
Not only densely packed, but with dense heads.
Empty minded on what isn't preserved,
as empty as this forest would be in-
20 years
Unknowingly using unnecessary means.
Means that cause either and decay.
Death in the most lively of places.
Our waters are warming,
natural disaster are thriving-
but not us.
Nature doesn't take kindly to fossil fuels.
Neither do they have any kindness to her.
Her wrath is shown, in the strikes of storms,
through the restlessness of her children.
Our economy has devoured itself,
it's hunger for money is endless.
The system of who gets what.
Our economy has grown too big for the consumers,
bigger than the consumers themselves.
It has lived off of the energy ofwho we think it serves.
But here, this forest.
A beauty of nature worth protecting.
Yet ignored and disposed of,
with the thought that-
"It'll grow back".
But what if it doesn't.
What happens when it doesn't.
What is a creation without its creator.
We may of created this nation
but not the life in our lungs.
Wake up!
Open your eyes and wake up.
See what our own greed has done-
to us.
Wake up and see when the last leaf falls.
Like the last sand in an hourglass.
Time for us fleets.
Soon we will be the next extinct species.
Just like the creatures we caused the extinction of.
But here, see.
The trees like skyscrapers,
the wolves like cars,
the birds like planes,
the dirt road like a sidewalk.
And yet, there are no people.
But with no people, there is peace.
Peace in the forest,
with no skyscrapers,
no cars,
no planes,
no sidewalks.
And no people.
About this poem
This poem is a reflection of our natural world and all developing world. This poem shows that our new technology, as much as its help has been well-valued, has been destroying our planet. Some people have this idea that we can move to the next planet, assuming due to recent progress in space, that we can be reckless. But no, we must learn to be responsible and take care of our planet before moving to another one. It's like taking care of a house before buying another one. This poem shows a hardish image, but I won't sugarcoat it, this issue demands action and attention. We either have a parasitic or symbiotic relationship with our earth. Or we could be an invasive species. We don't want that, I have hope that we can coexist peacefully, we have the technology to do so. This poem is a warning, while I am optimistic about what we could achieve in our future, I am also worried. more »
