The Losers
Philip Ebuluofor 1973 (Onitsha)
Losers:
It perched on the wall
Bedside his window and
Busied itself pecking at
It's leg pretending to be
Unconcerned.
But he knew it wasn't
Normal bird in the sense
Of normality, it was a
Messenger bird not in
The mold of homing pigeons
Never at all in that mold
Or something trained to
Be like that or run errands
But accusing birds.
It was the year of covid 19
The internet overflowing
With fear mongers with
Solutions of every kind.
He was thinking that somewhere
In the jungle of Africa, there must
Be leaf, roots that are formidable
Enough to challenge this marauders
Why must it be left to threaten
Humanity in the way it did and
Even have the temerity to see
The threat through. Nay, it must
Be confronted. But once that thought
Formed in his heart, and how much
Whoever made the discovery first will
Make from the fear eaten earth citizens
It reacted and flew away to deliver what it
Heard or what it thought it heard.
15 minutes later, a message concerning
His thoughts appeared on his smartphone
Originating from a communication
Outfit owned by a local citizen. A case
Of local witches joining forces with a
Foreign witches to prey, accuse and
Halt. Losers all.
