A New Dawn
David Lenz 1961 (Hendersonville, NC)
And so, thru the dark night I traveled, searching for the
dawn of new hope. It seemed strange to me how silently the
darkness crept in, and took over where bright hopes used
to be in the window of my soul.
When I was a child, I played, carefree and happy, in the
warm and bright sunlight of innocence. I knew only my
little world, with a future full of possibilities.
As time flew by, and my childlike ways gave way to the
stormy tribulations of life, I journeyed on, unaware of
the changes overcoming me. I could not see that darkness,
that reaper, coming ever closer. I could not hear the
cries of those I left behind in that other lifetime, that
other world. I didn't understand the perils I invited upon
myself, as I rushed, headlong into the night.
Now, as I start to realize how foolish I have been, how
easily I was deceived and led toward this dark and empty
existence, I look again for that bright hope I once knew.
And as I seek, I find the faintest glimmer of hope, which
will lead me to that beautiful dawn I long for.
