The Lady Sings

Lady day singing the blues.
Why are we still hanging from trees?
My brothers and sisters still aren’t free.

Trees baring strange fruit.
Let the Lady sing.
Let the people know how it stings.

The life of the black man hasn’t changed.
Watching our brothers hang.
Feeling the pangs of hate.

Lady Day what would you say if you were here today?
This world is still full of hate.

His neck aches,
His eyes are bulging.
I can’t breathe are his thoughts.

A knee at his neck.
A rope around his throat.
Does he have any hope?

As he takes his last breaths he sees his Savior.

The one who gives hope and not a rope.
The one who accepts him for who he is and not the color of his skin.

The one who forgives all sin.

Holy Father forgive them for they do not know.  You’re the savior of my soul.

Father Heal my neck!

In this earthly world protect your neck.
