WHICH GOD?
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
WHICH GOD?
Long ago, or so I heard
Perfection came in a word
Perfection came on His breath
Till Adam's sin brought us death
And I just had to ask
My divinely appointed task
Which God do I trust?
Which God is right and just?
I saw Israel God chose
I watched God's power grows
I saw Israel refuse to obey
Man's idols get in the way
The prophets came forward
Shouted till all have heard
They died as they proclaimed
The Chosen one Emmanuel is named
And I just had to ask
My divinely appointed task
Which God do I trust?
Which God is right and just?
I heard a babe, crying in a manger
Looked up, heard something stranger
Heavens Angels lit up the night sky
Peace on earth was their bright cry
And I just had to ask
My divinely appointed task
Which God do I trust?
Which God is right and just?
I heard Jesus preach God's love
Heard what His message was made of
I saw the Pharisees fury grow
As Christs seeds began to sow
I saw Him betrayed, sent to die
Watched Him hang on the Cross High
And in death did Jesus lay
To arise on the third Day
And I just had to ask
My divinely appointed task
Which God do I trust?
Which God is right and just?
He stayed for forty days
Taught His disciples His ways
Watched as He ascended in a cloud
Heard He'll return with Heaven's Crowd
And I just had to ask
My divinely appointed task
Which God do I trust?
Which God is right and just?
I watched the news, just today
I heard echoes of what Christ did say
Earthquake, famines and war
But I've heard that all before
My friend I've told you all I know
What'll you do, where'll you go?
The choice lies here before you
Heaven or Hell but both are true
And you just have to ask
You divinely appointed task
Which God do you trust?
My friend in Jesus you must
Amen
About this poem
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense[a]; he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2
