The Swing

Back and forth
Up and down
welcome to The Swing

So much fun
for the young
A metaphorical gun
for some?

I swing to the front
Reality
I swing to the back
Fantasy

Back and forth
Up and down
It’s not a swing
It’s a merry go round

Heads a mess,
thoughts run rampant
do I even begin to address?
attempt to correct my distress??

flashes of memory
baggage from the past
Why can't I let it go?
Why do I make it last?

Back and forth
Up and down
Emotional rollercoaster
etching a permanent frown

why do I allow it in
why do I feel so much pain
I need to let it go
I need to start again

rollercoaster, please stop rolling
a gentle coast is fine
merry go round, please stop rounding
Merry is a good state of mind (mine?)

If I can only coast
my way towards merry
I can endure
the swing
