A Walk in the Park
Kenneth ALlen Patrick 1948 (KY)
A Walk in the Park
I walked through the park and I saw him.
He was worn. He was torn. He was sad.
I could tell he was cold and was hungry.
I reached down to see what I had.
I was sure he was homeless and lonely.
I debated with me what to do.
As I looked even closer, I noticed
on his feet, there was only one shoe.
Watched him limp to the can full of garbage.
Then, he searched to find something to eat.
I no longer could watch without acting,
So, I quickly jumped up on my feet.
I approached and put one arm around him,
as I told him how sorry I was
that life somehow hurt him so badly.
He replied, “that is just how it is”.
I decided to give him some money
and gave him whatever I had.
We sat back on the bench and kept talking.
He smiled and no longer seemed sad.
He told me he knew God would bless me.
We shook hands and I went on my way.
I turned back to the bench where I left him.
I remember that sight to this day.
For you see he no longer was sitting.
I could find him nowhere in the park.
All I saw was a bright light still shining
on that bench when all else had turned dark.

This is an actual personal experience for me.
I had recently discovered that a partner embezzled
all my business and personal money.
I went to the park to sit and think what to do next.
