My Father
My Father
My Father had come , unto this land
With youthful soul , and working hand
To fulfill dreams , and forget the past
Of horrible wars , new perception to cast
His life was full , of horror and strife
So his Mother then sent him , to start a new life
His age was just twelve , and I can't comprehend
The fear that was felt , not having a friend
As leaving the ship , in a harbor so great
And a Statue of Liberty , that welcomed his fate
He learned to speak English , and worked as a boy
In homeless shelter's , discovering joy ...
That life has now given , a new second chance
That he was now free, his survival enhanced
But soon he discovered , that life is not fair
While drafted in Army , war's stench soon to bare
Korea was cold , he once said to me
And as I asked questions , was soon telling me ...
That he would not rather , discuss all the times
That he thought about death , the sleepless bedtimes
His body did show , of the wounds that were laid
The former corruption , the price that was paid
I grew not to know him , as he left my young world
Now searching new life , his thoughts became furled
I remembered the times , that I felt very lost
Not sure why things happen , my memory tossed …
Until I then realized , his life was so grim
That I became victim , of the war inside him
