The Visitor

The visitor slipped through the doorway
and floated silently across the room.
A soft brush of my cheek,
an artful dance beneath my hair.

The stranger comes and goes as he pleases
taking direction from no one.
I smile at the unexpected visit
and revel in the gentle caress upon my skin.

I stood, freed from my torment.
Drinking in the unencumbered air swirling in his wake.
Everything responded to his presence
Lifting in greeting, then bowing with reverence.

My very essence seemed transformed
My spirit soaring like a bird's first flight
after mending of a broken wing.

As the visitor slips silently back through the door,
My renewal is not lost.
I close my eyes and smile as I recall
The soft brush of my cheek,
the artful dance beneath my hair.
