Unfit
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
Dressed to impress.
In suits tailored made.
Giving image and status to address.
Yet...
Intelligence to have it.
A mind to use connected to common sense.
Is not shown to be known,
Publicly expressed.
Without doubt to convince.
Stringed puppets can dance.
Done to forget their heads are hollow.
Or thick as wood.
And painted to represent,
An entertaining human being.
Performing.
With strings pulled.
By someone behind the scenes unseen.
Although muppets,
Not puppets.
Can attract the same audience.
And them distracted.
Even though the muppet,
Sits between two clowns.
Also dressed to impress.
While they support what the muppet says.
With hope the people vote and not notice,
How serious this performance is.
With it wished the people,
Select this nonsense...
As the best,
To elect to represent their interests.
Regardless,
How mentally unfit...
Muppets, puppets or string pullers can be.
Today?
Nearing the year 2023...
Many accept progress,
As a backward movement made.
Paying homage to a past.
To romanticize their ancestors escape,
Away to find a better place to live.
And greeted they were with opened arms.
Not a word of English,
Could they write or read.
Immigrants all.
But...
Of an accepted and familiar ancestry.
Today?
Nearing the year 2-0-23?
TWENTY TWENTY-THREE!
People seek to be entertained.
And not be reminded,
That life to live is serious business.
Once fiction interferes to delude reality?
Truth becomes the threat and enemy to fear!
Making unfit mentalities crazed,
Role models to follow.
And cheered and praised,
As tomorrow's leaders!
What had been yesterday 'unfit'?
Today most are craving,
The appetite to be in the limelight.
Honored for their heroic,
And thoughtless...
Absent of mind use achievements!
