Miles Away
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
People don't seem to give a care.
Who does what, when and where.
If not seen appearing near their doors.
To even then ignore.
With a doing to dismiss,
As worthless to gossip about.
Yet claim it wished to want,
Peace kept to keep it.
Justifying to do this with,
An array of weapons on display to use.
Quick to get to aim and shoot,
At anyone or 'thing' that moves to ignite...
That exciting enjoyment of target practice.
Inside, outside or miles away,
From their own comfort zones.
Fenced and exhibiting signs not to trespass.
Although will travel for hours,
Exploring other territories to have it believe...
Peace is their main priority to keep it.
But nowhere near from homes they roam,
Is evidence of peace to keep it kept.
Yet...
Division, conflict, and ethnic bigotry,
Is considered for them an entitlement.
However...
Expressing this interpretation,
To endorse as their peace to have...
Would be better appreciated,
By those who live...
Wishing to want the lives of their ancestors,
As they were without romanticized to fiction.
Perhaps should spend that time,
What they choose to accept as best for them...
Within the fences of their own backyards.
Not to feel one threat or fear,
Anyone traveling from miles away...
Would trespass or come near to interfere!
And perhaps that is the message,
Made heard to hear loud and clear.
No one should feel it their duty or feel it is,
To travel distances away from the comfort...
Of their own coded zip zones.
For an attention to get to declare,
Of never being replaced from places...
Others pray for them to stay!
Without need to be kept,
Repeatedly reminded from where they come!
Who they are.
And what besides the color of one's skin,
Makes them...
Abandon common sense and their minds.
To go absolutely crazy,
Of their being competent, confident.
Honest and trustworthy.
Throughout history!
'Oh yeah!?
But...
Who has the image,
Of brilliance and beauty?'
